Class Descriptions by Age/Level. These are the SCD recommendations.  All dancers will be evaluated the first two weeks of the Fall Semester. Any change in placement will be notified via email.

The Pixie Dust Academy 

The following Pixie Dust Academy classes are offered both day and evening times. You may choose from any of the following. If you wish to register for multiple classes at different times you may do so. Each class requires its own registration and tuition. All dancers will attend 1 class a week unless registered for multiple classes.

 

Ages 2-3 (First Timers) The Pixie Dust Academy

My Dance Debut 

Let their love for movement and music begin with our "My Dance Debut." Designed for our tiniest dancers who want to explore the world of dance. Perfect for ages 2-3 with no previous dance experience. We will waltz through  fairytales to introduce Ballet basics, terminology, and creative movement.  Join our Dance Debut and watch your dancer fall in love with Ballet while also making new friends!

Tinker Bell Tumble (TTT)

Perfect for your little tumbler! Does your child like to flip, roll, and jump?  Through our Acrobatic Arts Acro certification and leveled syllabus, we will introduce the wonderful world of Gymnastics to your dancer. In Tinker Bell Tumble, students will learn basic tumbling skills, body awareness, strength, and flexibility.  

Jazzy Jungle Jams (JJJ)

Welcome to our NEWEST class at SCD! There's no better time than now for your dancer to enjoy pop music and jungle jams. We will introduce Jazz basics through dance games, activities, and super fun music. This class will allow dancers to explore dance through musicality and variation. We strongly suggest enrolling in the My Dance Debut with the Jazzy Jungle Jams. 

Tip Tap Toes

By far our favorite introduction to dance!  Let's grab those tap shoes and make some noise.  Dancers will learn the different parts of their tap shoes, introduce tap terminology, and allow dancers to explore sounds, movement, and musicality.  We strongly recommend Tip Tap Toes be paired with My Dance Debut!

Ages 4-6 (New to Dance) The Pixie Dust Academy

Fairyland Ballet 

Our Fairyland Ballet is designed for dancers between the ages of 4-6 with little to no previous dance experience. Here we will explore the beautiful world of Ballet through our detailed syllabus including monthly themes, activities, Ballet technique, and the freedom to explore in a safe and nurturing environment. We highly suggest this class for proper age development and training.

World Tour Tumble (WTT)

Through our Acrobatic Arts certification and leveled syllabus, we will introduce the wonderful world of Gymnastics to your dancer. Students will learn tumbling skills, body awareness, strength, and flexibility. We will take their Acro training to the next level as we build self awareness and confidence into each of our students. WTT pairs perfectly with Fairyland Ballet .

 

Jazztastic

Let's get ready to boogie, shake, move, and groove! In Jazztastic, dancers will learn important skills including a warm-up to improve flexibility and strength, across the floor Jazz tricks and combinations to current pop music to develop their jazz technique and performance. 

Spectacular of Sounds

Dancers will focus on foot and ankle articulation while creating rhythmic sounds with various parts of the foot including ball, heel, toe, etc. The tap class will focus on  sound mimicking,  structured warm-up to develop the proper ankle strength and flexibility, across the floor combinations for musicality and choreography to learn patterns,  dynamics, tempo change, etc. 

Any Student enrolled in the below levels are required to enroll in Ballet . Our program is designed to develop a strong technical dancer which begins with Ballet; The foundation of dance. All other genres of dance are optional. 

All new SCD students will be evaluated August 10th-21st. Evaluations will take place in class by the SCD instructors. If we feel your dancers level needs to be adjusted we will contact you via email. 

Pre-Level (Ages 5-7 with previous  dance experience)

 

Pre-Ballet 1 or 2  (required for all pre level dancer)

This is where the training begins! Dancers begin to learn a classic ballet barre including barre placement. Center work for proper alignment and balance is incorporated into each class. Dancers begin to recognize ballet terminology , positions, and proper execution. Dancers will focus primarily on the foundational elements required to advanced through the SCD training program. This class is designed for a Seasonal training year from August through May. Please only register for this class if you are confident your child will continue throughout the season. 

Pre-Jazz 1 or 2

Jazz is a perfect addition to your dancers Ballet training. Jazz is a fast paced, upbeat class that focus on jazz terminology, technique, pirouettes (turns), jumps, flexibility and self expression through improv. We will dance our hearts out to current (clean) pop music and learn the importance of self awareness, creativity, dedication, team work, and performance! Your dancer will for sure be grinning ear to ear!

Pre-Lyrical

NEW TO SCD! Lyrical is a collaboration of ballet technique and jazz. In this class, your dancer will move with grace and elegance to slower music. This class will focus heavily on the importance of performing. They will learn to tell a story through dance while evoking emotions such as happy and sad. If you are looking to enroll in a 3rd class for your dancer, we strongly suggest Pre-Lyrical! Please note this class is only 30mins. 

Pre-Acro 1 or 2

Dancers will begin to develop a higher level of gymnastic strength, flexibility, and skills. This class will begin to focus on handstand strength, back flexibility, body awareness, and NEW tricks. Dancers are required to have a forward roll, cartwheel, and bridge prior to enrolling in Pre-Acro.

Beginner Level (Ages 7-8 with a minimum of 2 years dance experience)

Beginner Ballet (required for any beginner level dancer)

This is the foundation of dance and is required by all students at SCD. In this class, students will learn proper body placement, body awareness, spacial awareness and both ballet technique and terminology. They will learn to execute proper Ballet posture through a classical ballet warm-up using the Ballet barre, center work to strengthen balance, ankles, and the necessary muscles to execute both small and large jumps know as petite allegro and grande allegro. 

Beginner Jazz

Jazz is a fast paced, upbeat class that focus on jazz terminology, technique, pirouettes (turns), jumps, flexibility and self expression through improv. We will dance our hearts out to current (clean) pop music and learn the importance of self awareness, creativity, dedication, team work, and performance! 

Beginner Lyrical

n this class, your dancer will move with grace and elegance to slower  music. Lyrical is designed to increase your dancers ability to perform on stage while also incorporating ballet technique and terminology they are familiar with in Ballet class.  While executing proper dance skills, they will learn to tell a story through their movement and how to connect to an audience. This class is GREAT for any student who is interested in the SCD Competition Team!

Beginner Acro

SCD is an Acrobatics Arts Certified facility. Our Acro instructors follow a very detailed syllabus that allows students to develop the proper strength, flexibility, and tricks needed to progress through our Acro program. We will focus on the basics of proper Gymnastics and contortion training and work through the levels to increase a dancers skills and tricks. 

Beg & Junior Hip-Hop/Musical Theatre

Introducing SCD'S first combination class! One week students will grab their sneakers and get ready to move and groove to the latest kid friendly hip-hop, including free style, improv circles, combinations and more! Week 2 will be all about the MUSICALS! Grab your Jazz shoes and let the fun begin. Dancers will learn both original and broadway choreography. This class is designed to take your performance quality to a NEW LEVEL! Do you love to perform? This class is for YOU!

Junior Level (Ages 8-9 with previous dance experience OR  Ages 9-11 with no previous dance experience)

Junior Ballet (required for any junior level dancer)

In this class, dancers will develop contemporary skills such as swing and release, floor work, weight exchange, and how to move effortlessly through grounded movement. This class is designed to educate dancers in the various modern methods as well as teach them dynamics, partner work, levels, negative space, and intricate movements. 

Beg/Int Acro

SCD is an Acrobatics Arts Certified facility. Our Acro instructors follow a very detailed syllabus that allows students to develop the proper strength, flexibility, and tricks needed to progress through our Acro program. Int Ballet (required for any Intermediate level dancer)

This is the foundation of dance and is required by all students at SCD. In this class, students will learn proper body placement, body awareness, spacial awareness and both ballet technique and terminology. They will learn to execute proper Ballet posture through a classical ballet warm-up using the Ballet barre, center work to strengthen balance, ankles, and the necessary muscles to execute both small and large jumps know as petite allegro and grande allegro. 

Beginner Pointe (this class is teacher recommendation and evaluation testing. Minimum age 11)

Introduction to Pointe, including Pointe shoe sewing, ankle strengthening, theraband exercises, barre work, and developing pointe skills through repetition and at-home exercises. This class is on flat Aug-Dec. All students will attend a pointe shoe fitting in Atlanta, GA with the SCD staff. Dates and Time for fittings will be announced a the start of the season. 

Int Jazz

Jazz is a fast paced, upbeat class that focus on jazz terminology, technique, pirouettes (turns), jumps, flexibility and self expression through improv. We will dance our hearts out to current (clean) pop music and learn the importance of self awareness, creativity, dedication, team work, and performance! 

Int Lyrical

In this class, your dancer will move with grace and elegance to slower  music. Lyrical is designed to increase your dancers ability to perform on stage while also incorporating ballet technique and terminology they are familiar with in Ballet class.  While executing proper dance skills, they will learn to tell a story through their movement and how to connect to an audience. In this class, dancers will develop contemporary skills such as swing and release, floor work, weight exchange, and how to move effortlessly through grounded movement. This class is designed to educate dancers in the various modern methods as well as teach them dynamics, partner work, levels, negative space, and intricate movements. 

Int Acro

SCD is an Acrobatics Arts Certified facility. Our Acro instructors follow a very detailed syllabus that allows students to develop the proper strength, flexibility, and tricks needed to progress through our Acro program. Dancers will begin to work on center work, across the floor, pirouettes, etc. Development of advanced skills will increase throughout the Season.  Dancers spend a minimum of 2 years in this level.

Int/Adv Jazz

Jazz is a fast paced, upbeat class that focus on jazz terminology, technique, pirouettes (turns), jumps, flexibility and self expression through improv. We will dance our hearts out to current (clean) pop music and learn the importance of self awareness, creativity, dedication, team work, and performance!

We will focus on the basics of proper Gymnastics and contortion training and work through the levels to increase a dancers skills and tricks. 

Int/Adv & Adv  Hip Hop

Dancers will learn street style dance performed to todays hip-hop music. This class will focus on a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping . Class will include freestyle, improv, and combination work. Sneakers are required for this class. 

Advanced Level (Ages 13-18)

 

BALLET REQUIREMENT: All dancers enrolled in th Advanced level or higher MUST enroll and attend 2 Ballet classes per week. This is required by SCD. 

Advanced Ballet (required for any  Advanced level dancer)

In this class, students will learn proper body placement, body awareness, spacial awareness and both ballet technique and terminology. Advanced Pointe (1 or 2 years of Intermediate Pointe is required prior to Adv Pointe)

Dancers will further their Pointe education and technique through more advanced skills and elements. Dancers will also learn Classical Ballet variations and will be considered for our lead roles in our Nutcracker and Spring Ballet. 

 

Advanced Jazz

Jazz is a fast paced, upbeat class that focus on jazz terminology, technique, pirouettes (turns), jumps, flexibility and self expression through improv. We will dance our hearts out to current (clean) pop music and learn the importance of self awareness, creativity, dedication, team work, and performance! 

Int/Adv & Adv Lyrical
